Sanford, FL - A Central Florida pastor is back behind bars after being arrested again on multiple sexual assault charges. Authorities say 33-year-old Yersson Solarte now faces five new counts of sexual battery involving underage victims in Volusia County.

Previous Arrest and Extradition

Solarte was first arrested on May 7 by officers with the Prince William County Police Department in Virginia. He was later extradited to Florida and booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility in Sanford. Friday morning, he is expected to appear before a judge for his first hearing on the new charges.

Allegations at Local Church

The allegations stem from Solarte’s time as a pastor at Ipul Pentecostal Church, where police say he allegedly assaulted two underage girls who were members of the congregation. Sanford police reported receiving a complaint on April 10, 2025, about what they described as an inappropriate relationship between Solarte and the two victims.

Following the report, church officials removed Solarte from his pastoral duties.

Ongoing Investigation

Police believe additional victims may exist and are urging anyone with information to come forward. Investigators say they are continuing to review evidence connected to Solarte’s activity at the church while coordinating with authorities in multiple jurisdictions.

When a trusted medical professional violates their duty to care, the effects can last a lifetime. Florida sexual abuse lawyer Michael Haggard discusses the legal steps available to victims of sexual assault by doctors, how these cases are handled in both civil and criminal court, and what support survivors can access when seeking accountability.

Laurence Banville, Esq.: When victims come forward with allegations like these, what legal options do they have?

Michael Haggard, Esq: In Florida, survivors of sexual abuse by clergy can pursue both criminal and civil actions. The criminal case addresses the offender’s liability under state law, while a civil lawsuit can help victims recover compensation for emotional trauma, therapy costs, and other damages. In many cases, churches or affiliated organizations may also bear responsibility if they ignored warning signs or failed to protect congregants.

Banville: How important is it for victims to act quickly?

Haggard: Timeliness matters because evidence and witness testimony can weaken over time. However, Florida law has evolved to extend or remove certain time limits for filing civil claims, especially involving child victims. Survivors should speak with an attorney who understands both the legal process and the sensitive nature of these cases.
