A walk-on band coach at Del Oro High School has been charged with multiple felony sex offenses involving a student, according to Kern County Superior Court records filed Thursday afternoon.

Charges Filed Against 26-Year-Old Coach

Prosecutors say 26-year-old Salvador Fabian faces six felony counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor more than three years younger, along with several related offenses. These include two counts of sexual penetration of a foreign object involving a victim under 18, one count of oral copulation by a person over 21 with a person under 16, arranging a meeting with a person under 16, and committing a lewd or lascivious act with a child under 14.

Arrest and Investigation

Fabian was arrested on October 28, 2025, by the Bakersfield Police Department’s Special Victims Unit after officers responded to reports of an alleged inappropriate relationship between an employee and a student at Del Oro High School. He was taken into custody without incident.

District Response and Public Appeal

The Kern High School District confirmed Fabian’s employment as a walk-on band coach and stated he was immediately placed on administrative leave following his arrest. Investigators said evidence collected so far does not indicate additional victims. However, anyone with further information is encouraged to contact the Bakersfield Police Department at 661-327-7111.

CA Lawyer Explains Victims' Rights After School Band Coach Assault

Victims and their families often feel uncertain about the legal steps available when sexual misconduct involves a school employee. Sexual abuse lawyer Jason Amala shares key options California law provides for survivors. Their discussion highlights how survivors can protect their rights, file civil actions against both perpetrators and institutions, and navigate the unique deadlines that apply in these sensitive school cases.

Laurence Banville, Esq.: Families reading about this case may wonder what protections exist for students targeted by a coach. What main legal routes can victims follow?

Jason Amala, Esq.: The criminal side involves police and prosecutors charging the offender, as seen here with the band coach's arrest. On the civil side, victims can sue the perpetrator directly for damages covering therapy, lost opportunities, and emotional distress. If the school district overlooked warning signs or failed to supervise, a lawsuit against them is possible under negligence laws, which can lead to settlements holding the institution accountable.

Banville: Deadlines can be confusing in these matters. How much time do survivors have to act?

Amala: California has removed many time limits for child sexual abuse claims, allowing adults to file civil suits years later. Still, gathering evidence like witness statements or school records works best soon after the incident, so consulting a lawyer promptly helps build a solid case without pressure.

Banville: What practical advice do you give families suspecting abuse by a school staff member?

Amala: Start by reporting to authorities and the school to trigger an investigation. Seek counseling for the victim right away, and contact an abuse attorney for a free review of options. This ensures privacy, preserves rights, and opens doors to compensation that supports recovery.
