England, AR - Authorities confirmed that an assistant principal at England High School has been arrested and is facing multiple felony charges related to the sexual assault of a student.

England police officials identified the suspect as Trent Morgan, who serves as the school’s principal of student services, ALE director, and EHS basketball coach. According to investigators, Morgan was taken into custody following an inquiry into allegations of sexual misconduct involving a 14-year-old boy.

Investigation Launched After Student Report

Police stated that the investigation began on November 17, after a student reported inappropriate communications and conduct by Morgan. England Police Chief Richard Friend said that once the accusations surfaced, authorities worked swiftly to investigate and secure the safety of the student involved.

Multiple Agencies Assisted in the Case

Morgan faces felony charges of rape, sexual assault in the second degree, and sexual grooming of a child. Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley confirmed that Morgan was arrested and is currently being held in the county detention facility, awaiting his first court appearance.

Chief Friend thanked the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office, the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division, and the Jacksonville Children’s Protection Center for their support during the investigation, emphasizing that quick coordination was key in protecting the alleged victim and preserving evidence.

Following the arrest of England High School assistant principal Trent Morgan on felony charges involving a 14-year-old student, questions have arisen about the legal steps available to victims and their families. To provide perspective, Arkansas sexual abuse lawyer Joshua Gillespie explained how state laws allow victims to seek justice through both criminal and civil actions, and the importance of early legal guidance in protecting victims’ rights.

Laurence Banville, Esq.: When allegations like these surface involving a school official, what are the main legal options for the victim and their family?

Joshua Gillespie, Esq.: In Arkansas, victims of sexual abuse by educators or school staff can file both criminal and civil actions. The criminal process is handled by the state, but a civil lawsuit allows the victim to seek compensation for trauma, therapy costs, and related damages. Schools can also face liability if there’s evidence of negligence in hiring or supervision.

Banville: Are there deadlines victims should be aware of when taking legal action?

Gillespie: Yes. Arkansas law sets specific time limits based on the victim’s age and when the abuse occurred. However, many cases involving minors allow for extended time frames since trauma may delay disclosure. Consulting a lawyer soon after reporting is key to protecting the victim’s rights.

Victims of sexual abuse and their families do not have to face this process alone.
