PENSACOLA, FL — A tragic crash in Escambia County on Thursday afternoon left one man dead and a woman critically injured after their vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer on U.S. 98.
Crash Occurred at Busy Intersection
According to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2 p.m. when a car traveling north on Aileron Avenue stopped at a stop sign but failed to yield while crossing U.S. 98. At the same time, an 18-wheeler was heading east on U.S. 98 and approached the intersection. Investigators said the truck driver attempted to avoid the smaller vehicle but struck the driver’s side door.
Man Pronounced Dead at the Scene
The impact pushed both vehicles to the east of Erin Drive, shutting down the stretch of U.S. 98 for roughly three hours. The 41-year-old man driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a woman whose name was not immediately released, was airlifted to a nearby trauma center with life-threatening injuries.

Officials confirmed that the driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing as troopers work to determine what led to the fatal collision.
