A tragic crash in Clyde claimed two lives Sunday evening after a train collided with a pickup truck at a rural crossing, authorities said.
Officials Describe the Crash
Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Marc Couch said troopers were called to FM 18 and County Road 243 at about 2:45 p.m. “On the north side of that intersection is the entrance to a private driveway,” Couch explained. “A Ford F-150 was attempting to exit that area, crossing the railroad tracks, and failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming train.”
Moments later, the vehicle was struck and burst into flames. “There was a fire that occurred after the vehicle was hit,” Couch said. “The truck was fully engulfed in flames when first responders arrived. Their priority is always to try to save lives and provide medical care to anyone involved.”
Victims Pronounced Dead at the Scene
Both the driver and passenger in the Ford F-150 were pronounced dead at the scene, while the train crew escaped unharmed. Couch expressed condolences on behalf of law enforcement, adding, “Our hearts go out to everyone affected, especially the family involved in this crash.”
