Batavia, IL - A chiropractor in Illinois is facing serious allegations after authorities say he secretly recorded hundreds of patients without their knowledge. David Hanson, owner of Hanson Family Chiropractic in Batavia, was arrested Wednesday night following an extensive investigation by local law enforcement.
Hidden Cameras Found Inside Clinic
According to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, investigators found that Hanson had installed hidden cameras inside his clinic, capturing nude footage of patients as they changed clothes or received treatment. Officials estimate more than 180 individuals were recorded over an extended period.
Child Pornography Discovered During Search
During searches of Hanson’s home and office, investigators also seized electronic devices containing videos of child pornography. Authorities say the material did not involve any of his patients or activities connected to his chiropractic practice. Hanson now faces additional charges for possession and distribution of child pornography.
Next Court Appearance Scheduled
Hanson remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Prosecutors have not yet disclosed whether further charges or victims are expected to be identified as the investigation continues.
Legal Options for Victims of Chiropractor Sexual Abuse
Following the arrest of Illinois chiropractor David Hanson on multiple criminal charges, experienced Illinois lawyer Erv Nevitt discusses how victims of sexual abuse or privacy violations in medical settings can take legal action. Nevitt explains the rights available under Illinois law, the importance of early legal consultation, and how civil lawsuits can help victims recover damages and hold negligent parties accountable.
Laurence Banville, Esq.: What legal options might victims have if they discover they were secretly recorded or sexually abused by a healthcare provider?
Erv Nevitt, Esq.: Victims can file both civil and criminal complaints. Criminal cases focus on the offender’s punishment, but civil lawsuits allow victims to seek monetary damages for emotional distress, privacy violations, and other harms. Illinois law gives victims the right to hold not just the individual offender accountable, but also any institution that failed to implement safeguards or properly supervise staff.
Banville: How early should victims speak with a lawyer after learning about such misconduct?
Nevitt: It’s important to reach out as soon as possible. Early consultation helps preserve evidence and ensures filings meet Illinois’ deadlines for civil cases. An experienced attorney can explain privacy rights, assist with reporting to law enforcement, and begin the process of securing compensation for damages caused by the offender’s actions.
