Tucker, GA - A well-known business owner in Tucker faces criminal charges following two separate reports of sexual battery made in consecutive years, according to the DeKalb County Solicitor General’s Office.

Officials confirmed that John Siggers, the 87-year-old owner of Siggers Hairdressers, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of sexual battery after investigators obtained warrants based on complaints filed in 2023 and 2024. Authorities arrested Siggers on Sunday, and he was later released from the DeKalb County Jail.

Assault Allegations Detailed in Civil Lawsuit

Decaturish.com reported that a civil lawsuit filed in August accused Siggers of inappropriate contact with multiple women, alleging he touched their private areas while offering them money. The suit also named his wife and business partner, Carol Siggers, claiming she knew about her husband’s actions but did not intervene.

Sexual Assault Denials and Health Claims

Through their legal representatives, the couple denied any wrongdoing. They stated that Siggers suffers from dementia and disputed the claims made in the lawsuit and criminal charges.

Case Under Ongoing Review

The DeKalb County Solicitor General’s Office confirmed both charges are misdemeanors under Georgia law. No trial date has been announced as the investigation continues.

Following recent reports involving a Tucker salon owner charged with two counts of sexual battery, we spoke with Georgia sexual abuse lawyer John Bey about the legal options available to victims. Bey explained how survivors can take action through criminal and civil courts, what legal standards apply in such cases, and the importance of early legal support when reporting sexual misconduct.

Laurence Banville, Esq.: When allegations like these arise involving a business owner, what steps are available for someone who believes they’ve been assaulted?

John Bey, Esq.: Victims have both criminal and civil paths. In criminal cases, local prosecutors handle the charges, but survivors can also bring a civil lawsuit to recover damages for emotional trauma, medical costs, and loss of income. That process is separate from the criminal trial and can move forward even if the defendant is not convicted.

Banville: If the accused suffers from medical conditions such as dementia, does that affect accountability?

Bey: It can factor into the defense, but it doesn’t erase responsibility. Courts assess whether the individual had the capacity to understand their actions. If victims provide credible evidence and witnesses, the case can still proceed.

Banville: What advice would you give to someone afraid to come forward?

Bey: They should contact law enforcement or an attorney as soon as possible. Early legal guidance protects their rights and helps preserve evidence that may be vital later.
