Pompano Beach, FL – Authorities have arrested a South Florida athletic coach accused of inappropriate conduct involving two students at a private school.

South Florida Coach Arrested for Alleged Abuse of Students

Ronison Exavier, 24, assistant athletic coach at Highlands Christian Academy, was taken into custody Monday after the Broward County Sheriff’s Office (BSO) investigated claims of lewd and lascivious molestation.

Allegations Surface After Family Report

The investigation began when the family of one of the students contacted BSO after discovering that Exavier had allegedly summoned the student to his office on October 15 and touched her inappropriately. Detectives later identified another student who made similar allegations of misconduct.

Arrest and Charges Against Accused Coach

After obtaining statements from both victims, detectives arrested Exavier at his Coral Springs residence. He faces felony charges of soliciting or engaging in sexual conduct with a student, lewd and lascivious molestation, and touch or strike battery.

Detectives Seek Additional Information

BSO detectives say they are concerned that more victims may be involved. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Eric Wilson at 954-321-4460. Anonymous tips can be submitted through BSO Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

In the aftermath of recent allegations against Highlands Christian Academy coach Ronison Exavier, veteran Florida sexual abuse lawyer Michael Haggard discussed the steps victims and their families can take. Haggard detailed how state and civil laws work to protect victims, hold institutions accountable, and ensure survivors have a path forward through legal action and support.

Laurence Banville, Esq.: For families learning that a coach or school employee may have harmed their child, what legal avenues are available?

Michael Haggard, Esq.: Families can pursue both criminal and civil actions. The criminal process will hold the offender accountable under the law, but the civil route allows victims to seek compensation and accountability from the institution if it failed to protect students. Schools have a duty to vet, train, and supervise their employees, and when they fall short, they can be held responsible.

Banville: How soon should families speak with an attorney?

Haggard: As soon as possible. Early legal guidance helps preserve evidence, protect the victim’s rights, and prevent further harm. Families should also ensure their child receives professional counseling right away.
