Longtime Broward County Teacher, Craig Rogers, Arrested on Multiple Child Exploitation Charges

Coral Springs, FL – A Broward County Public Schools teacher with more than two decades of experience at Westchester Elementary in Coral Springs has been arrested after police say he shared child sexual abuse material online and referred to himself as a “pervert teacher” in chat groups.

Police Investigation Uncovers Disturbing Online Activity by FL Teacher

Coral Springs police took Craig Rogers, 60, into custody on Tuesday on seven felony charges. The investigation began on May 22, when the National Center of Missing and Endangered Children provided a tip indicating Rogers was distributing child pornography through the Kik social media platform. Detectives identified Rogers as the account holder and soon discovered his employment with the school district.

Authorities reported that images found in Rogers’ Kik account showed his office and equipment room at Westchester Elementary. Messages from various chat groups included Rogers repeatedly calling himself a “pervert teacher.” An arrest report details that the videos in question depicted children as young as six years old. Investigators also said Rogers told another Kik user that his “favorite students are age 12 at my school” and sent photos of clothed students participating in physical education. The report further states that Rogers shared images of his genitals taken while at his desk on school grounds.

Teacher Arrested for Allegedly Sharing Child Porn

Police located Rogers at the Studio 6 Motel on North University Drive, where he had been living. After serving a search warrant, officers arrested him and seized multiple electronic devices. This is not the first time Rogers has faced criminal accusations this year; he was previously arrested in April for allegedly stalking a neighboring family over an extended period.

District Responds and Urges Cooperation in Investigation

Broward County Public Schools issued a statement on Wednesday expressing deep concern over the allegations and confirming full cooperation with law enforcement. “The employee had been reassigned away from the school and students in April 2025, following his off-campus arrest on a different case,” the statement read.

Rogers is currently being held without bond at the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail. The investigation remains active, and authorities are encouraging anyone with relevant information to contact Coral Springs Police Department Special Victims Unit Detective Nicole Hildebrandt at nhildebrandt@coralsprings.gov.

When allegations of sexual abuse surface within a school community, families often face confusion and uncertainty about what steps to take. Attorney Jen Lipinski, a Florida lawyer with years of experience representing survivors, provides clear guidance on how victims and their families can respond, what legal options are available, and how to navigate the challenges that follow such traumatic events.

Laurence Banville, Esq.: Jen, with a case like this involving a longtime teacher, what immediate steps can families take if they suspect their child may have been affected?

Jen Lipinski, Esq.: The first step is always to ensure the child’s safety and well-being. If there’s any suspicion of abuse, families should contact law enforcement right away. It’s also important to seek counseling or support services for the child, as early intervention can make a significant difference.

Banville: What about legal recourse? Can families take action beyond the criminal investigation?

Lipinski: Absolutely. Victims and their families have the right to file civil lawsuits against the perpetrator and, in some cases, the school district if there’s evidence that the district failed to protect students or ignored warning signs. These lawsuits can help families recover damages for emotional distress, therapy costs, and other related expenses.

Banville: Are there any time limits that families should be aware of?

Lipinski: Yes, Florida law sets specific deadlines, known as statutes of limitations, for filing civil claims. However, for child sexual abuse cases, these deadlines are often extended, especially if the victim was a minor when the abuse occurred. Still, it’s important to consult an attorney as soon as possible to preserve all legal rights.

Banville: What message do you have for families who may feel overwhelmed or unsure about coming forward?

Lipinski: You’re not alone, and there are professionals ready to help. Reporting abuse and seeking legal advice can be difficult, but it’s an important step in holding offenders accountable and protecting other children. Support is available every step of the way.
