Was James Earl Busby Listed on the SBC List of Abusers?
In 2016, James Earl Busby, a member of Alliance Baptist Church in Fort Worth, TX, admitted to sexually abusing a 6-year-old girl and her 4-year-old sister, as well as engaging in child pornography. He was sentenced to 35 years in jail in February 2018. He was a member of Alliance Baptist Church, but the pastor, Terry Kizer, did not inform the congregation until after Busby was convicted, allowing him to continue attending. Other members contested Kizer’s claim that Busby did not have access to the youth program.

A Record of Ignored SBC Misconduct

The report asserts that a senior Convention leader was credibly accused of sexual assault just one month after finishing his two-year term as the convention’s president. One victim outlined being treated with animosity as she claimed she was sexually abused by a youth pastor. The accused pastor served in several Southern Baptist churches in several states. At a meeting with the SBC leaders in 2007, a member of the Executive Council “turned his back to her during her speech and another chortled.”
Accountability in the Baptist Church
The document alleges that a major Southern Baptist official was credibly accused of sexual assault only one month after completing his two-year spell as the convention’s president.
