North Texas – Kirk Stanley Grable, 54, the owner of a security company contracted to protect Northwest ISD elementary schools across the greater Fort Worth, Texas area, was arrested Tuesday, July 16, 2024, on charges of sexually assaulting a child. Grable was booked into Parker County jail and released on bond the following day.

Allegations of Ongoing Abuse by School Security Owner

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the victim reported to police in May, detailing sexual acts Grable allegedly forced him to perform. The abuse reportedly occurred at Grable’s Willow Park home, beginning in 2021 and escalating in frequency until the victim turned 17.

Police Investigation Uncovers Corroborating Evidence of Child Sex Abuse

Law enforcement conducted a recorded phone call between the victim and Grable. During this call, police report that Grable made statements supporting the victim’s allegations.

Security Firm’s Role in Northwest ISD

Grable owns Lone Star Protection & Security LLC in Weatherford, which Northwest ISD hired in January to comply with new state legislation requiring armed security guards on all school campuses. The company provided security for five elementary schools in the district.

Northwest ISD’s Response to Child Sex Abuse Allegations

Northwest ISD stated they have no record of Grable personally visiting any schools or interacting with students. The district emphasized student safety as their top priority and is currently reevaluating its contract with Grable’s company.

Grable’s Background in Public Safety

According to his company’s website, Grable has over 30 years of experience in public safety, including work as a rescue specialist with Texas Task Force One. His firm provides security services to various establishments, including schools.

Ongoing Evaluation of TX School Security Contracts

Northwest ISD maintains contracts with four other security companies to staff its campuses. The district clarified that Grable is not affiliated with these other providers. As the investigation continues, the district is closely examining its security arrangements to ensure student safety.

Legal Recourse for School Resource Officer Abuse

In recent years, cases of sexual abuse by school resource officers and school officials have raised serious concerns about student safety and institutional accountability. As Northwest Independent School District grapples with allegations against a security contractor, questions arise about the legal rights of victims and the responsibilities of educational institutions. To address these critical issues, we spoke with Texas attorney Anjali Nigam, who specializes in sexual abuse cases. In this interview, Nigam offers valuable information on the legal options available to victims and explains how schools may be held accountable for negligence in such cases.

Laurence Banville, Esq.: What legal options do victims have in cases involving sexual abuse by school resource officers?

Anjali Nigam, Esq.: Victims can pursue both criminal and civil cases. While prosecutors handle criminal charges, victims can file civil lawsuits against the abuser and potentially the school district for damages.

Banville: How might schools be held responsible in these situations?

Nigam: Schools may be liable if they were negligent in hiring, supervising, or retaining the abusive officer. This could include inadequate background checks, ignoring warning signs or complaints or failing to follow mandatory reporting laws.

Banville: What advice would you give to victims and their families?

Nigam: I strongly recommend reporting the abuse to law enforcement and consulting with an attorney promptly. There are often time limits for filing civil claims. Victims should also document everything and seek mental health support.

Banville: Thank you for sharing with us today.
