San Antonio, TX – Authorities began investigating 23-year-old Christoper Patrick Uresti on May 20 after a 12-year-old student disclosed to a teacher that she had been sexually assaulted multiple times.

Former Teacher Met Victim While Employed at Kriewald Elementary

According to court records, Uresti first encountered the victim while serving as a substitute teacher at Kriewald Elementary in Southwest ISD. The child was a 5th-grade student during this period.

Social Media Contact Led to Communication with Young Student

After leaving his teaching position, Uresti and the victim reconnected via Instagram and text messaging in late 2024. Uresti was then employed at the Behavioral Management Center.

Alleged Sexual Assaults Occurred Over Several Months

Court documents allege that between February and March 2025, Uresti picked up the child from her home late at night on three occasions and forced her to perform sexual acts.

School District Cited Pattern of Inappropriate Behavior

Southwest ISD records show that Uresti faced termination proceedings in October 2024 for texting students, playing online video games with them, possessing their phone numbers, and sending inappropriate messages. The district allowed him to resign instead of terminating him.

Continued Contact After Resignation Raised Concerns

Despite his resignation, Uresti reportedly attended school events and picked up students, with some parents allowing this. Southwest ISD eventually issued a criminal trespass warning against him.

Former Substitute Teacher Held on $300,000 Bail

Uresti has been arrested and charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. He is currently in custody at the Bexar County Jail with bail set at $300,000.

Legal Options for Victims of Substitute Teacher Sexual Abuse: Attorney Explains

When a substitute teacher is accused of sexual abuse, families often face a maze of legal and emotional challenges. To learn more, we sat down with experienced Texas sexual abuse attorney Anjali Nigam to discuss the steps survivors and their families can take, the potential for civil action, and how schools may be held accountable when safeguards fail.

Laurence Banville, Esq.: Anjali, when a student is sexually abused by a substitute teacher, what legal steps can the family take?

Anjali Nigam, Esq.: Families can report the abuse to law enforcement and cooperate with any criminal investigation. In addition, they may file a civil lawsuit against the perpetrator and, in some cases, the school district if there’s evidence of negligence—such as failing to act on warning signs or not enforcing policies that protect students.

Banville: What kind of compensation might survivors and their families seek in these cases?

Nigam: Survivors can pursue compensation for medical expenses, therapy, pain and suffering, and other damages related to the abuse. Civil cases can also prompt schools to improve their safety protocols, which benefits the broader community.

Banville: Are there specific challenges when the accused is a substitute teacher?

Nigam: Substitute teachers sometimes slip through the cracks in screening and oversight. That’s why it’s important for families to work with attorneys who understand both the criminal and civil aspects of these cases, and who know how to investigate whether the school district met its obligations to protect students.
