Wall Township, NJ – Julie A. Rizzitello, a 36-year-old former teacher at Wall Township High School, faces serious charges related to an alleged sexual relationship with a student. The Brick Township resident remains in Monmouth County jail, charged with sexual assault, witness tampering, and criminal sexual contact.

Investigation Unfolds After Report of Teacher’s Inappropriate Sexual Relationship with Student

Wall Township police initiated an investigation after receiving a report from school officials about a possible inappropriate sexual relationship between Rizzitello and a former student. The student provided a formal statement to investigators, detailing a romantic relationship that began in April 2024.

Alleged Sexual Encounters with Teacher and Student

According to the probable cause affidavit, the student reported multiple sexual encounters with Rizzitello. These incidents allegedly occurred on May 18, 2024, in Brick, where oral and sexual intercourse took place in the student’s vehicle. The affidavit also mentions several other occasions between April and June 14, 2024, in Wall and Belmar, in addition to Brick.

Evidence and Witness Tampering Amid Sexual Assault Charges

The investigation uncovered significant evidence, including nude photographs sent by Rizzitello to the student following their first sexual encounter. The student’s cell phone revealed “numerous communications and photographs” of a sexual nature shared between him and Rizzitello. The former student also disclosed the relationship to several friends, which investigators later confirmed.

Notably, Rizzitello allegedly instructed the student to delete photos and communications on July 2, leading to the witness tampering charge.

Legal Proceedings After Teacher Accused of Sex Crimes with Student

Rizzitello, who taught English at Wall Township High School, resigned during the investigation. She now awaits a detention hearing to determine her custody status as the case progresses.
This case highlights the serious nature of teacher-student relationships and the legal consequences that can follow. As the investigation continues, authorities urge anyone with additional information to come forward.

Update: Teacher Faces Additional Charges in Student Sex Assault Case as Second Victim Comes Forward

According to a post on July 18, 2024, the former teacher at Wall Township High School, who was previously accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a student, is now facing additional charges. Monmouth County prosecutors and the Wall Township police announced on Wednesday that Julie Rizzitello, 36, of Brick Township, has been arrested and charged with one count of second-degree sexual assault and one count of third-degree witness tampering.

According to the authorities, the new charges stem from allegations that Rizzitello assaulted a second student multiple times in Brick Township back in 2017.

Rizzitello’s detention hearing is scheduled for July 23, and the investigation is ongoing. Officials are urging anyone with information about Rizzitello’s activities to come forward and contact the Wall Township Police Department.

School Abuse Attorney Discusses Rights and Accountability in Teacher Sexual Abuse Cases

When allegations of sexual abuse by a teacher surface, the legal landscape can be complex and daunting for victims and their families. To better understand the rights available to those affected and how schools can be held accountable, attorney Laurence Banville interviews Stewart Ryan, a seasoned New Jersey child sexual abuse lawyer. Their conversation provides clarity on the legal avenues for seeking justice and ensuring that educational institutions uphold their duty to protect students.

Attorney Laurence Banville: Mr. Ryan, what legal rights do victims of teacher sexual abuse have?

Attorney Stewart Ryan: Victims have the right to pursue both criminal and civil cases. While the criminal case focuses on punishing the perpetrator, a civil lawsuit can help victims and their families seek compensation for damages such as emotional trauma, therapy costs, and pain and suffering.

Banville: How can schools be held accountable in these situations?

Ryan: Schools can be held liable if they failed to properly screen employees, ignored warning signs, or didn’t respond appropriately to reports of misconduct. Victims can file lawsuits against the school district for negligent hiring, supervision, or retention of the abusive teacher.

Banville: What advice do you have for families affected by teacher sexual abuse?

Ryan: I urge families to report any suspicions to law enforcement immediately. They should also consult with an experienced attorney who specializes in sexual abuse cases. These lawyers can guide victims through the legal process, protect their rights, and help them seek the compensation they deserve.

Banville: Thank you for your insights, Mr. Ryan.
