Sexual Misconduct Allegations Outlined in Affidavit

According to the probable cause affidavit, a teenage girl reported during a forensic interview at Holly’s House that she had multiple sexual encounters with McBride, beginning when she was 15 years old. The affidavit states McBride first contacted her via Instagram while she was in middle school and escalated communication once she entered North High School.

The girl described that the relationship became sexual during the summer between her freshman and sophomore years in 2023. She recounted incidents occurring in McBride’s vehicle, at his mother’s home, a downtown Evansville parking lot, a meeting room at a previous workplace, and a room inside North High School. The affidavit also alleges McBride recorded some of these encounters and solicited explicit images from the girl.

Investigation Ongoing

McBride had not been booked into the Vanderburgh County jail as of Tuesday afternoon. Authorities continue to investigate, and further developments are expected as the case proceeds.

Legal Guidance for Survivors of Sexual Abuse by a Coach

When a coach violates the trust placed in them, survivors often face overwhelming questions about their rights and next steps. Attorney Jeff Gibson, who has handled numerous sexual abuse cases in Indiana, shares practical guidance for those considering legal action after experiencing abuse by a coach. His perspective offers clarity on the available legal avenues and the support survivors can expect as they seek accountability.

Laurence Banville: What steps can a survivor of sexual abuse by a coach in Indiana take if they want to explore legal action?

Jeff Gibson, Esq.: Survivors have both criminal and civil options. On the criminal side, law enforcement investigates and prosecutes the perpetrator. Civilly, survivors can file lawsuits against the individual and, in some cases, the institution if it failed to protect them. These cases can seek compensation for medical expenses, therapy, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

Banville: How important is timing for someone considering a lawsuit?

Gibson: Timing is very important because Indiana has statutes of limitations that set deadlines for filing claims. Speaking with an attorney early helps ensure the survivor’s rights are protected and evidence is preserved.

Banville: What support can survivors expect from an attorney through this process?

Gibson: Survivors can expect guidance at every step. We handle investigations, gather evidence, and advocate for our clients in negotiations or court. Our goal is to make the process as supportive as possible so survivors can focus on their recovery while we fight for accountability and compensation.
