Osgood, IN – A former coach from Ripley County has been taken into custody on sex-related charges. Chad Pindell, 36, was arrested and faces felony counts of child seduction and dissemination of harmful material.

Indiana State Police apprehended Pindell, following a two-month investigation into allegations of misconduct. The charges stem from incidents that allegedly occurred while Pindell was serving as an assistant coach for the girls’ basketball program at Jac-Cen-Del High School located at 4586 US-421, Osgood, IN 47037.

Coach Accused of Sexually Abusing 17-Year-Old Student

The inquiry began after the high school district became aware of claims regarding improper behavior between Pindell and a 17-year-old female student. Upon receiving the report, Pindell was promptly removed from his coaching position.

Coach Charged with Alleging in Sexual Misconduct With Child

According to detectives, Pindell initiated contact with the student through social media platforms earlier in 2018. He allegedly sent nude photographs of himself to the girl and engaged in sexual activities with her on school premises.

Pindell currently holds a position on the Ripley County Council and is seeking re-election. As of now, he remains in custody at the Ripley County Jail, awaiting his initial court appearance.

Legal Pathways for Victims of Coach Sexual Misconduct

In the aftermath of the arrest of former Ripley County coach Chad Pindell on felony sex charges, questions arise about the legal rights available to victims of such misconduct. Our team sat down with Jeff Gibson, an experienced sexual abuse lawyer in Indiana, to discuss the options for victims seeking justice and accountability. Gibson provides valuable information on how victims can navigate the legal system and hold negligent schools responsible for failing to protect students from abuse.

Laurence Banville, Esq.: Thank you for joining us today. What legal rights do victims of sexual abuse by a coach have, particularly in a school setting?

Jeff Gibson, Esq.: Victims of sexual abuse by a coach have several legal avenues available to them. They can pursue criminal charges against the perpetrator, which can lead to jail time and a criminal record for the offender. Additionally, victims can file a civil lawsuit seeking financial compensation for the damages they have suffered, such as emotional distress, therapy costs, and other related expenses. It’s critical for victims to document any evidence of abuse, such as messages or photos, to support their case.

Banville: How can victims hold a negligent high school accountable in these situations?

Gibson: Schools have a legal duty to protect students from harm, including sexual abuse. If a school fails to conduct thorough background checks, ignores complaints, or does not implement proper supervision and reporting procedures, they can be held liable for negligence. To establish liability, it must be shown that the school breached its duty of care, and this breach directly resulted in harm to the student. Victims can pursue legal action against the school district to seek accountability and ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future.

Banville: What steps should a victim or their family take if they suspect abuse?

Gibson: If abuse is suspected, it’s important to report it to law enforcement immediately. Victims and their families should also consult with an experienced attorney who can guide them through the legal process and help them understand their rights. An attorney can assist in gathering evidence, filing a lawsuit, and navigating both the criminal and civil justice systems. It’s crucial to act promptly to protect the victim’s rights and seek justice.
