Montgomery County, TX – A shocking case has emerged from Conroe Independent School District (ISD) as a former employee faces serious criminal charges. Kesean Carter, who briefly worked as a paraprofessional at Oak Ridge High School, located at 27330 Oak Ridge School Rd, Conroe, TX 77385, has been arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child.

Swift Action by School District Following Paraprofessional’s Arrest

Conroe ISD acted quickly upon learning of the allegations. Carter, who had been employed as a substitute teacher from January to May 2024, was hired as an instructional paraprofessional on August 21, 2024. However, his employment was short-lived. He was suspended on September 16 and subsequently fired on September 18, 2024, as the Conroe ISD Police Department conducted its investigation.

District’s Response to Allegations of Child Sexual Abuse by Employee

The school district has expressed its dismay at the situation. In a statement, Conroe ISD said, “We are incredibly saddened and disgusted by the actions of our former employee. This individual’s actions are not representative of our thousands of exceptional employees”.

Communication with Parents Amid Investigation Into Child Sex Abuse

Oak Ridge High School Principal Shawn Almond sent a letter to parents detailing the situation. He assured them that the school and district are committed to providing a safe learning environment for students. Almond emphasized that the alleged actions of Carter do not reflect the professionalism and care exhibited by the school’s staff.

The Conroe ISD Police Department is leading the investigation into this case. Parents whose children may have information related to the investigation are urged to contact the police department at 936.709.8911.

Legal Implications of School-Related Sexual Abuse Cases

The recent arrest of a former Conroe ISD employee for child sexual assault has raised serious questions about student safety and legal accountability in educational institutions. To address these concerns, we spoke with Anjali Nigam, a seasoned Texas attorney experienced in representing child sex abuse cases. In this interview, Nigam offers valuable information on the legal rights of students who have experienced sexual abuse by teachers and explains how negligent parties can be held responsible. Her expert analysis provides a clear understanding of the legal landscape surrounding these sensitive cases, offering guidance to affected families and highlighting the importance of swift action and thorough investigation.

Laurence Banville, Esq.: What legal rights do students have when sexually abused by a high school employee?

Anjali Nigam, Esq.: Students who have been sexually abused by a teacher or school employee have several legal rights. They can pursue criminal charges against the perpetrator, which is handled by the state. Additionally, they have the right to file a civil lawsuit against the abuser and potentially the school district for damages.

Banville: How can negligent parties be held accountable in such cases?

Nigam: Negligent parties, such as the school district, can be held accountable if it’s proven they failed to protect students adequately. This could include inadequate background checks, failure to respond to previous complaints, or lack of proper supervision. A thorough investigation is necessary to determine if the school district was negligent in its duty to protect students.

Banville: What advice would you give to families affected by such incidents?

Nigam: I would advise families to report the abuse immediately to law enforcement and the school district. They should also consider seeking legal counsel to understand their rights and options. It’s important to document everything and seek support for the child’s emotional well-being. Remember, the child’s safety and healing should be the top priority.
