Was Dan William Haby Jr. Listed in Southern Baptist Abuse Report?

Dan William Haby Jr., a former pastor at Cowboy Way Church in Alvarado, TX, as well as Stockyards Community Church, abused two teenage boys. The report likewise identifies three previous presidents of the convention, a previous vice president, and the former head of the SBC’s administrative arm as prominent SBC officials who aided in covering for and even motivated suspected abusers.

One victim detailed being treated with animosity as she claimed she was sexually abused by a youth pastor. The implicated pastor served in several Southern Baptist churches in numerous states. At a meeting with the SBC leaders in 2007, a member of the Exec Committee “turned his back to her during her speech and another chortled.”

Accountability in the Southern Baptist Convention

Russell Moore, the previous head of the SBC’s policy arm, the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, mentioned ‘this is not all Southern Baptists, look at all the good we do.’ The Report shows a trend of stonewalling, retaliation, coverup, and intimidation.” He anticipates this document will deliver much-needed reform and hold those accountable for their misconduct.
